Tires: Breeding Grounds for Mosquitoes!

Tires make for perfect breeding zones for mosquitoes. They hold water, stay warm, and provide protection for mosquito eggs, making them the perfect nest for a new spawn of pests to grow.

While female mosquitoes suck blood in order to lay eggs, all mosquitoes feed on plant nectar to survive. Similarly, mosquito larvae feed on plant debris found in vernal pools, wetlands, and tires or containers holding water.

In an effort to reduce breeding sites for mosquitoes, Midland County Mosquito Control has partnered with GeoCycle of Coleman, MI to reduce the number of residential scrap tires in the county.
