J. Dee Brooks graduated from Michigan State University in 1980, and from the University Of Detroit School Of Law in 1983. He has been a practicing Michigan trial lawyer for 39 years, and has worked in public prosecution for 34 years. He previously served as an Assistant Prosecutor in Kent and Bay Counties, 14 years in Midland County, including eight years as the Chief Assistant, and has also served as a Special Prosecutor in six other counties. He has served as the elected Midland County Prosecutor since November of 2014.
Mr. Brooks currently serves as the Vice-President of the Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan (PAAM) Board of Directors, on the State Elder Abuse Task Force, and on the Commission on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Michigan Judiciary. He previously served on the Midland City Council, the Shelterhouse Board of Directors, the Midland County Domestic and Sexual Violence Coordinating Council, the Circle of Health Partnership Board, and the United Way Campaign Cabinet and Community Allocation Panels. He also currently serves on the Tri-County Community Adjudication Program Board (Tri-Cap), the Health and Human Services Council, and as Chair of the Midland County Community Corrections Advisory Board and the DARE Program Board of Directors. Mr. Brooks is a member of the Leadership Midland Alumni Association (Class of 2002), the Midland Business Alliance, and has been a volunteer coach for the Midland Community Center and the Midland Soccer Club.

Atea attended Grand Valley State University where she was a member of the Frederik Meijer Honors College and graduated cum laude with her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 2010. She earned her Juris Doctorate from Michigan State University College of Law, summa cum laude, in May 2013. During law school, Atea completed an internship through the Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan in the Berrien County Prosecutor’s Office, as well as internships in the Ionia and Ingham County Prosecutors’ Offices. She also served as the Executive Director of the Appellate Moot Court Board and earned her Trial Practice Certificate through the Trial Practice Institute at MSU College of Law. Atea was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan in 2013. In 2014, Atea joined the Midland County Prosecutor’s Office where she primarily handles administrative matters and matters in the Midland County Circuit Court.
Atea is also the owner/handler of the office's canine advocate, Joey.

Joseph Amend

Joseph is a graduate of Saginaw Valley State University, where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, Criminal Justice, Business Management and Health & Fitness Management. While attending SVSU, he was a varsity letterman in baseball. He received his Juris Doctorate from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in May 2001, and successfully passed the Michigan State Bar examination in July 2001. During his time at Cooley Law School he completed a prosecutorial externship with the Bay County Prosecutor's Office. Upon admission into the State Bar of Michigan he served as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for the County of Tuscola from 2002 until 2005, where he successfully handled numerous criminal and civil matters in the District, Probate, and Circuit Courts.
Joseph joined the Midland County Prosecutor's Office as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in April of 2005, where he continues to successfully handle numerous criminal and civil matters in the District, Probate, and Circuit Courts for the County of Midland.

Michael graduated from Saginaw Valley State University in 1995 earning a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and Sociology. Michael received his Juris Doctorate from Thomas Cooley Law School in 2000. While at Cooley Law School, Michael completed a prosecutorial externship with the Midland County Prosecutor’s Office. Following graduation, Michael worked for the Midland County Prosecutor’s Office in a temporary capacity. In 2001, Michael joined the law firm of O’Neil, Wallace and Doyle, P.C. in Saginaw, handling insurance defense, subrogation and other civil and criminal matters. In 2005, Michael worked as an associate attorney for Robert P. Denton, P.C. successfully representing clients in bankruptcy and criminal defense matters. In 2006, Michael formed Adamczyk & Yelsik, PLLC, a law office in Bay City that specialized in Bankruptcy, Criminal Defense, and many other civil matters.
Michael is an avid martial arts practitioner for over 20 years and has earned black belt ranks in Judo, JuJitsu, and Cuong Nhu Oriental Martial Arts. Michael has competed in Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournaments around the state.

Patrick is a 2008 graduate of Michigan State University, where he received his Bachelor of Arts, with honor, in Business Administration-Prelaw. He received his Juris Doctorate from Michigan State University College of Law, cum laude, in May 2011. While in law school, he completed an internship through the Prosecuting Attorney Association of Michigan’s internship program at the Midland County Prosecutor’s Office. After law school, Patrick served as an assistant prosecuting attorney in Mason County for two years. He returned to Midland where he served as an assistant prosecuting attorney for five years where he primarily handled juvenile delinquency and child protection cases. That experience led him to accept a position as the Juvenile Referee and Deputy Court Administrator with the 42nd Circuit Court Family Division. In October 2019, Patrick returned to the Midland County Prosecutor’s Office and currently serves as an assistant prosecuting attorney handling matters before the 75th District Court as well as appeals to the Michigan Court of Appeals and the Michigan Supreme Court.
Patrick has served as vice-president and president of the Midland County Bar Association and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Midland County Home To Stay. He is a graduate of the Midland Business Alliance’s Leadership Midland Program (Class of 2019 “Death Pants”). He currently lives in Midland County with his family.

Sara Bauman

Sara is a 2018 graduate of Saginaw Valley State University, where she received her Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, in Criminal Justice. While at Saginaw Valley, she interned at the Shiawassee County Prosecutor’s Office in 2016. Ms. Bauman received her Juris Doctorate from Michigan State University College of Law in May 2021. During law school, Sara completed an internship through the Prosecuting Attorney Association of Michigan’s (P.A.A.M) internship program at the Midland County Prosecutor’s Office, as well as an internship in Genesee County Prosecutor’s Office. After law school, Sara returned to the Midland County Prosecutor’s Office while studying for the Michigan Bar exam to help the office and gain more experience. Ms. Bauman was sworn in as a lawyer in the 42nd Circuit Court by Judge Stephen P. Carras. Her experience as a P.A.A.M. intern led her to accept a position as an Assistant Prosecutor for Midland County. Ms. Bauman currently serves as an assistant prosecuting attorney primarily handling matters before the 75th District Court as well as assisting with probate and appellate matters.

Emily Richards

Under the supervision of the Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, Emily is assigned to handle delinquency cases and child protective proceedings in the Circuit Court-Family Division. When assigned, she also reviews and authorizes requests for warrants, determines the appropriate charge, and prosecutes criminal cases. She attempts to resolve and adjudicate assigned cases or tries them in court. Emily joined the Prosecutor's Office in December of 2016.
