Autism Law Enforcement Recognition & Trust (A.L.E.R.T.)
The Midland County Sheriff’s Office is committed to the safety and well-being of all residents in our community. The more information deputies have when responding to calls for service, the better equipped they are to provide appropriate assistance and meet the needs of those they serve.
The mission of the Midland County Sheriff’s Office Autism Awareness Initiative is to help emergency responders identify homes and vehicles where a person with autism may be present. These decals alert deputies and other first responders that an individual with autism may be in the home or vehicle and may not speak, respond to, or comply with verbal commands, may hide or wander away, or may have limited awareness of potential dangers.
The Midland County Sheriff’s Office provides these decals free of charge to county residents who wish to place them near the front entrance of their home or in the rear window of their vehicle. The decals help law enforcement officers recognize the potential presence of an individual with autism and respond with greater understanding and awareness.
If you would like to participate in the program but prefer not to display a decal on your home or vehicle, simply complete the registration form and request zero decals. This will allow the Sheriff’s Office to note the address in our dispatch system so responding deputies are aware that a person with autism resides in the home.
